Degree Major: INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS
What is it?
An international business degree is similar in scope to a degree in business administration, but with an emphasis on global relations, commerce and foreign language training. In this major, you’ll study business practices and solutions within the framework of translating your data for a multinational corporation and global economy. International business students learn about the differences in business and trade practices in different countries and how to make businesses successful in many countries simultaneously. Expect a program that not only stresses global business basics, but cultural practices and language as well. Even entry-level positions within this field require a bachelor’s degree, so the more credits you can transfer when going back to college, the quicker you can complete this degree.
Who should choose this major?
If you enjoy business but also have a background or interest in different cultures and languages, an international business major will be a great fit for you. Already knowing a second language will help you with this degree, as will existing credits in any type of international studies. You will also be required to continually educate yourself, since business and trade practices change and grow over time in different countries. If you excel in learning about different ways of doing things and using that information to devise a cohesive plan, you’re a strong candidate for a major in international business.
Which careers could you potentially obtain with this degree?
Expect a career in international business to require travel to other countries or even relocation to another country, depending on which type of position you pursue. You may also be required to work long or non-traditional hours, depending on which time zones you communicate with. International business jobs include:
- International Banking Officer
- Cultural Advisor
- Foreign Market Analyst
- International Managing Consultant
- Global Network Manager
- International Business Administrator
- International Sales Representative
- International Business Development Manager
- International Trade Specialist
- Import Compliance Specialist
- International Economist
